Default Sound system failure - need help

1999 RX300; 182K; Nakamichi sound system w/cd, no Nav. Tonight while listening to an FM station, the volume more or less gradually faded away to nothing. No sound from CD. All lights on the head-unit remained lit. Help! How do I determine what is likely wrong? Isn't there a power amp somewhere? TIA.

That is the exact thing that happened to me. And this happened because when i unlock the car, and open the door, none of the door open lights come on or anything, so the security system in the car doesn't know how its being started without the door opening and closing. I read somewhere out there that you sit in the car, RUNNING, and lock and unlock the door with the switch on the door 22 times to reset the security system. I haven't had an issue since that happened, and that was last year around this time maybe longer. I know, it sound weird. Just try it and let me know. I am curious to see if it works for you as well.

99rx: Sounds very weird. Are you saying that is what you did to get yours to work, or you read it somewhere but your problem went away for some other reason?

No, that is exactly what i did to get my problem to go away. I know it sounds really weird, but i guess it resets the security system or something. Haven't had an issue since...
