Knock sensor and Timing belt tensioner
Dear all,
I changed my timing belt in 2008 and I just got a diagnostic that I have a problem with the timing belt tensioner making some noise: the quote for this to be repaired is 1100 USD at a Toyota dealer, would you say that this is a fair price?
More over, I recently had the knock sensors replaced and the noise started right after that repair. I know that bad luck happens, but I was wondering if one has to touch anything about the timing belt when performing a repair on the knock sensor?
I appreciate your help and technical advices on these issues.
Best regards
Roger

T-belt tensioner is about $90 for the part.
Held by 2 12mm bolts and takes 5 min to do.
Get out of that Dealer.!
As for the Knock sensor job. They should'nt have touch anything on the T-Belt side.

Nad, I believe they probably meant the tensioner pulley. Hard to imagine how the tensioner itself would make noise. A little more work, but still not a bad job. How would you like to get $1100. for changing that? I'd be glad to throw in a couple extra pulleys for spares for that $. I agree, don't darken the door of that dealer again, least not when he has a yacht payment due.

Art- some overcharge, some simply rob your personal bank without even the use of a gun. At least it's one case where you have some control over being robbed. That job should take a GOOD mechanic (in a shop with a lift and air tools) about 30-35 min. (that's the tensioner pulley assy. and tensioner) You can actually buy the OEM tensioner AND tensioner pulley assy. online for less than $90.
