Default Crack in the Dash

Any ideas what the best product would be to repair a crack in the dash of my 2002 RX300? I have no idea what caused the crack... the crack is a vertical crack, around 1/3 the way down the picture

I'm sorry to hear about your crack. Since this is more general than the RX300, perhaps you should try asking this question on the "Automotive care and detailing" Lexus forum.

I don't know of an inexpensive, perfect solution. From my experience with other cars, I think it is a trade-off between how much you want to spend and how perfect you want it to look.

Find out leather mender in your area. You can try calling your dealership and see if they can get you in touch with shop they use. If the shop has been working with Lexus, most probably they would have a close color match. I would stay away from folks who have not been dealing with Lexus as a bad color job would look worse than the rip.

I'm not saying this isn't a good approach, but I'd like to point out that this piece is not leather.

Just guessing but a leather shop most likely has lots of experience with color matching and crack filling and I would think that was the reasoning behind the suggestion.

Thank you for all the suggestions.

I'm thinking of putting a dab or 2 of rubber cement (or Crazy Glue), and then a dab of paint over it. Of course, getting an exact match for paint color would probably not be likely,

Does anyone have any idea what the paint color of the dash is?

Thank you

My experience (with other makes of cars) is that there is no possible paint match. Paints will match at one lighting level and not at another. Also, paints will have a different level of gloss (reflectivity). There are vinyl dash repair kits that have little bottles of primary colors that allow you to mix up a matching shade, but if you do a web search, you'll see none of them get good ratings from users.

I used one of those vinyl repair kits from Autozone....Scarey to use but the results were great.
Made by Permatex item 81781.(VR-8A) I practiced on a piece of cardboard and did the color matching on the cardboard. My repair was on the passenger door just below the window...

Natural cracks are caused by heat or stress, you can try to fix it for the look, but your fix will not stop it from further crack. If it was accidently cracked, then your fix will probably last longer. I would think dash cover is the best fix. You can get vinyl or leather repair kit at walmart. it comes with color matching kit too, like 10 bucks or so.
