2001 RX300 Headlight Help Needed...

I need some education on this ... sine I have '99 model with regular light bulbs (non-hid).
The headlight assembly should have the self leveling motor. The newer models should have the corner/turn adapter mechanism. It could be the terminology, but the ballast is a coil (resembling a mini-brick). If you buy an after market kit, you have to install it on the fender body. The function of the ballast s to produce high voltage to get the gas to ionize ... same as the ballast in florescent fixtures.
I am having a hard time visualizing how it can be inside of the lamp assembly. It can be attached to the outside of the lamp and sold together..
Debug hint: you can swap bulbs ... left with right and see if the problem moves.

As far as replacing it with an after market kit, I would only do that if you replaced both of them. I would look for a used OEM Lexus ballast first. Could very easy come from a junk yard where I have picked them up for under $40.
btw, I am looking to do a TSX retrofit into my headlights with DSr bulbs and ballast.
I would highly recommend what Salim said as well. You have a good ballast and a good bulb. Start switching them out to find out what the problem is. I see no need in you taking this in to a mechanic. Start switching back and forth.

2001 RX300 HID headlamp
My Rx300 got hit on the front driver side panel and broke the cover for the headlamp.
The body shop will replace the fender and they told me the whole headlamp unit need replacing since it comes as a unit. The HID light is not affected. Can the headlamp cover be replaced without needing the whole unit? It is $400 used on Ebay and over a thousand new for Lexus OEM.
Please advise.

Hey buddy welcome to club lexus i had the same problem with this my ballast died on me the denso ballast is mounted inside the headlight its self if you pull out your headlight their will be a rectangular cover near the fog light bulb with 2 Philips head screws thats where the ballast is at also make sure that the bulb is 100% oem denso ,philips, hella, or genral electric my best luck was with denso i found other bulbs would turn on and shut off, but if you open your hood and here a fast buzzing sound from the side that is not lighting up its 100% the ballast it just has initially Failed on you and a replacement will be needed
