RX 300 hesitation at start
Our RX 300 has 133,000 miles. It now hesitates from stop to first gear about 10% of the time while emitting a clicking sound. Please help!

Welcome to the Club.
Is this immediately after starting up as there is a delay feature largely for emissions reasons for a few minutes. The clicking may be another issue (piping or brakes).

Lexus 300 RX stuttering
Thanks for the reply. I only happens from a full stop position when you first hit the accelerator. It sounds like a stutter - a repetitive chuck-chuck-chuck for about 10 times then all is fine. During the stutter, the car hesitates and struggles to move forward.
We ate dinner next to a couple that has 2 RX 300's and they had the same symptom, turned out to be a bad coil.
Does that make sense?

You would usually have a CEL, for that though, usually a blinking one because the car would be misfiring. You could try going to AutoZone and checking the car for any pending codes.

Only other thing if no light is an exhaust piping issue. I'd take a look underneath the vehicle, particularly just underneath the engine at the exhaust piping there as that area is prone to issues (I know). In addition, if you can have another person drive the car at slow speed like 5 mph and you watch from the outside you may be able to pick up the location of any noise. I have found that any popping around exhausts are an issue on the joint areas of the exhaust (where they are held together by 14 mm bolts) and I have had gaskets go or be loose.
True, bad coils would have a CEL (and a flashing one at that).
