GENERAL Grabber HTS (tire) still the best?
Hello, I'm trying to figure out the best tires for my 2002 RX300. Just from reading reviews and ratings on the GENERAL Grabber HTS it looks to be the best tire for SUV's. Anyone have these on their RX300?

There has been a lot of disscussions on the tire subject on the forum, do the search. I use Kuhmo Solus and very happy with them as far as price, reliability and a quiet drive.

Took my 02 rx300 up and down snowy sideroads just yesterday. About 7 inches deep with 1 or 2 previous tracks. 25 Degrees. First time testing the Michelin LTX that came with the car . Bought last July. 7/16" tread depth left after about 30k miles. No problem or wheel spin when starting from dead stop on a gradual incline. Stopped right now going down same incline. Could hear the snow scraping bottom of car. Went back to plowed road and tested panic stop in the slush from 30 mph. Stopped straight with the abs kicking in. Not as short a distance. as my Subi did with studs, but in my opinion, va short enough distance. Was going to get studded tires as I ski 2 -3 days a week but after this test, I'll save the $ for new skis!

I have Michelin LTX's on my RX300, 3 of which have around 80k miles on them (the 4th was a road hazard replacement). I'm hoping to get through this winter with them, which means that I'll have around 100k on them.
For an SUV, I feel that is fantastic tire life, and as ski2days stated, the tires handle quite well in the snow.
Our RX300 originally came with (I think) Goodyear Integrity... couldn't handle snow at all!

The Goodyear Integrity's that came with the 1st gen RXs were designed purely for comfort and noise factor. They are basically large car tires. I couldn't wait to get rid of them.
Have a set of Michelin Cross Terrains now with over 60K miles and still going strong. Slightly stiffer sidewall and better road contact profile have improved handling greatly, without increasing noise or decreasing ride comfort significantly. These are a premium tire but you can often get them on sale at Costco when they run their Michelin special sales deals.

Consumer Reports rated the GENERAL grabber HTS #1, MICHELIN LTX M/S rated #5. This was in 2008 for SUV tires. I've always been a MICHELIN fan, so maybe the MICHELIN LTX M/S2 is better rated than the GENERAL grabber HTS now. $40 more per tire for the MICHELIN LTX M/S2.

Ugh, you're all doing it wrong. Why you gonna put off-road tires on your RX (Grabbers & LTX?). Seriously??? Put those on your 4runner, not your RX. Nobody here goes off-roading in this car. So get a nice set of luxury-ute tires.
I recommend the Michelin Latitudes. I got new ones a few months ago, upsized to 235 width. I'd say they're quiet, but they're not. They're silent. Quiet would imply there's a hushed road noise. This doesn't exist though, it's literally silent at all speeds, on all pavements. They've been handling great in the cold wet weather so far this fall. Noticeably more comfortable than the old Michelin LTX they replaced. Full set was $614 out-the-door from DiscountTireDirect shipped to my front door.

You know waht sucks about the Grabbers on my RX300? I can't do Dukes of Hazzard style burnouts in the snow. They're like Velcro on the road.
I'm sure the others aren't bad, either, but I did my research, too. Michelins are good but overrated, Yokos are good. Grabbers were good and a good price.

I respect Consumers reports too and factor it in my decision making process. But, bottom line is your preference. The Michelin's are what I use and am considering the Lats when my cross terrains need replaced. Costco has great specials on these a few times per year.
