Looking For A RX.... Can It Tow ???
Whats up fellas, Here is the thing I love my SC and I wont be getting rid of it ever. BUUUTTTT I have two jet skis and I work in a trucking yard with crappy streets around the area and the yard it just fulll of pot holes. So I have a daily (chevy S10) that also doubles as the tow pig for the skis on the weekends. But damn I miss the comfort of the Lex for daily use so needless to say I am looking into possibly picking up a 1gen RX (duh). The big questions I have are......
1. Can it two my 2 jet skis (2wd model) I would say with trailer and full gas about 2,000lbs
2. Realiability ? I use to work at the Dealer and man RX's would be in there all the time. Is it a reliability issue or poor maintanence ? My mother has a 2005 V6 Camry which I asume is the same engine and that thing has had no reliability issue
3. What should I watch out for when looking at these higher mileage ones. I dont want to spend too much and I dont mind picking one up that could use a little maintenance, my best friend is a certified Master Lexus Tech and I can get anything I want done to it. I just dont want transmission or major engine issues.
Looking for input from u RX guys so any and all is appreciated

I have an RX300 AWD with 129k miles and a tow package. I don't think it was used much before we bought it @ 82k miles. However, I have used it to tow a couple of times only... a U-Haul trailer full of stuff. Seems like it pulled no problem. Jet skis on a trailer would probably be about the same weight and less aerodynamic drag.
The engine still purrs along nicely and burns no oil. The tranny seems solid. Just have had the following maintenance: brakes, fluid changes, a leaky flex pipe, O2 sensor, tires, etc. Seems pretty straight forward to work on. My 2 cents.
My wife loves driving it.

you should get a 4x4 RX in case your backing in the jet skis into a little bit of water incase your not getting traction off the front two...just a thought. Try to find an older 99 RX with the transmission already replaced/rebuilt. As far as the engine goes its reliable, sludge problems seem to be blown out of proportion to me.

Get AWD over 2WD. Problems may be, Transmission (Pre 2001), CEL on monthly and usually expensive to fix, unless you just ignore it like me, they are sort of hungry on brakes. Should get one with tow package and trans cooler just to be safe on a hot day or a steep mountain road. Otherwise, it will pull the PWC's just fine.

They aren't hard on brakes... so I don't know why you said there brake hungry...lol
Drain and Fill the trans (only if prior to half-way 2000 model year) every 15-20k, and you'll be fine.
The only "common" CEL that you will eventually encounter is a 02 sensor if it hasn't already been replaced. I call that normal maintenance, but whatever floats your boat my friend!
These are pretty damn reliable, treat it well, and it'll do the same for you!
