So you paid about $780 in parts for all three converters? That seems a bit on the high side based on what I have seen - did you purchase all the three converters online ? If so which site. When I checked each of these was about $160 to $225 - so it should be approx $600 for parts.

I actually bought them in the store (Advance Auto). I went back and looked at my bank statement. I paid $680 for all three. So $800 for the whole job. The back converter which is a Y pipe was like $293.00. We were going on a trip so I didn't do a lot of internet shopping due to timing. Plus the way these things are referred to and part numbers, I did not want to take a chance on getting the wrong converter. But I guess it really didn't matter because I replaced all three.

Would this be an opportunity to modify the exhaust to "breathe" better? Seems like a very congested exhaust system which definitely reduces gas mileage. A good exhaust shop could do this.

Maybe I am just complaining out loud about gas prices and the restrictive OEM exhaust systems. Probably so. Seems like a better design would get clean air and better gas mileage. But what do I know... I am not the "brilliant government."
