I see tons of aftermarket switchblade cases that can be easily swapped out for our Lex keys. Problem that I see is getting the blank cut properly. I've been told by several ppl that the dealership will almost certainly will not cut the aftermarket key to the specifications. So if not the dealership, can local lock/keysmiths even have the ability to cut a Lexus key?

I'd check Home Depot, they cut key's and they recently started doing car key's with remotes. I'm pretty sure my friend had his IS300 key switched to a switchblade and had it cut at Home Depot, but I'll ask him to be sure.

Anyway, it is made with cheap plastic....very poor fit and finish.....and from the photos you would expect it to be the general size of a VW switchblade key....but it is not....it's very large....the makers put very little thought into the design....when in the closed position, the thing is about the same length as your regular remote key.

I was told it would cost me almost $100 at the dealer... many places do not have the ability to cut those keys because they do not have the computer laser cutter thingy.... but if you find a good locksmith, there is a manual style machine to cut the keys... it requires a lot of skill and is easy to mess up... but i watched him do it infront of me..took about 10 mins and it works perfectly......cost was $25..... i cant comment on the quality of those switchblades but let me know because i was considering one as well....
