Break in period changing to synthetic oil
I've been inquiring about what the break-in period is before I can change from the OEM oil to Mobil1 Synthetic. It sounds like every body has a different opinion, varying from no break-in period to 6K miles. Any ideas? I want to change my '01 RX300 to Mobil1, but at the correct (if there is one) period. Thanks. Brian.

Well, I'll offer a little common sense...
Since your first oil change and maintenance is free at 5k miles, why not wait until 10K miles? Mobil 1 under normal driving conditions can easily go upto 10k miles, but I change mine (and filter) every 5k miles... the oil practically looks new every time I drain it.
FWIW,
TC

RX300TC makes a good point. I wanted nothing but synthetic ran in my engine and heard it was bad to use conventional oil then synthetic. You hear all kinds of opinions on this. What I did was just to buy want I wanted for my first, and all, oil changes - Mobile 1 5w-30. That is what I have always used.

Lexus Champion
TC is right on the money with where I'm going.
Free 5K service for me back in June, and I've already purchased Mobil1 5w-30 5qt. jugs at Wal-Mart for 17.88 ea. I also picked up genuine Japanese manufactured OEM oil filters from the local Toyota dealer for $6/each, as well as the oil plug gaskets, so I'm ready to move to synthetic at my next oil change.

Mobil 1
The new Porsche 996, 320HP, comes from the factory with Mobil 1 and the first recommeded change is at 15k. Get rid of the junk/gunk Lexus put in your car at the factory immediately and then do as the factory says and only change the oil/filter every 7500 miles.

synthetic oil
Hi guys,
I read it somewhere and want to share it with you all that if you plan to use the synthetic oil and change it at 8K or more, it is a good idea to just change the oil filter at 4k or so, then change it all both oil and filter again when it gets to 8k or more.
