Unhappy new to lexus but have couple issues!

owned many hondas in the past but its time to get a suv, found this beauty for one heak of price! 1999 rx300 awd with only 81k miles for $6000.

drove it home from chicago (400miles), ran and drove fine. just need a alignment and found out fan mode wasnt working properly. but after doing some google found its the servo(spelling) under the glove box. its stuck on face mode.not a big issue

main problem just yesterday i notice the OverDrive wasnt working properly. after few google research, found out engine performance/sensor can affect transmission not engaging OverDrive. it runs and drives fine but when i push the O/D button on/off nothing happends, its stuck in OverDrive on freeway, around 4000 rpm going around 65mph.

i didnt see check engine light but ill take the car to auto part store see if any codes comes out. hope its not transmission issue, these can be pretty darn expensive!

plans are : change all the awd system fluid and transmission as well. since i dont know when was last service date. it never hurts to have fresh fluid.

ill try pull the batttery cables to reset the ecu, might just be simple sensor error(hope it is!)

thanks for all the help and input in advance!

absolutly love the SUV just need get this main issue figured out, since i do travel alot freeway miles, this is wasting quite a bit gas!

do not do a tranny flush, drop the pan and check filter. then refill. If you can read any pending codes that might be in the computer...

Stuck on high RPM's? It can be oxygen sensor, Knock sensor(expensive repair). It can be multiple things and it wont be as cheap/easy fix as you might think.

It could be a knock sensor, if it's not going into OD.
But, first thing would be to disconnect the battery for 15mins, then re-connect and see if OD works, and see if any CEL's appear....
There's a good DIY on here for the servo's. And, yes do a drain and fill done on the tranny, like the 1st poster said DON'T DO A FLUSH, ONLY DRAIN AND FILL. There's many diy's for the drain and fill for the tranny, differential, and transfer case, it's extremely easy.

So sorry to hear that! Please report back, it's almost impossible to blow one of these engines!

x2, these engines are bulletproof, besides the sludge "issue".

These problems could explain the 80K for $6K price. Owner might have put the thing back together with spit and bubble gum and hoped it survived the test drive. Now it's falling apart again. stink that these things happen.

That's a good point, and it may very well be true... Before removing the engine or doing anything drastic, I'd have a talk with the seller.

Yes, major engine problems within 2 weeks of buying the car is not kosher........... Could just be a VC gasket but if the pressure is building up that high, there could be other issues.
