Hi, I am going to change my engine oil (every 3000 miles , or 5000 miles?? I forget) . I am wondering the best brand name for this car, and if it is always available at dealership? Thanks.

Personally I like Castrol OIl 0-30w european blend...you are asking something that is of personal choice...Others are going to tell you Mobil 1, amsoil, etc....Any synthetic will serve your car well.

I'd also mention specific names. Castrol 0W30 has performed the best of any oil for me, but that doesn't mean I don't experiment. I am currently using the Pennzoil Ultra 5W30 and am about halfway through with it.
I recently had a good experience on MPG with our 06 4Runner V8 RWD running 17.3 on Eneos 5W30.
However, as the RX300 gets older I look at oils like the Castrol 0W30 that are a bit more stout in the long run in terms of consumption since the 1MZFE likes to chew oil. I ran that for 10K miles and had a quart in consumption.
If you are looking to run something a bit lighter like a 20, you may want to consider the Redline 5W20 as that acts a bit like a 30, similar to the way Castrol 0W30 runs like a 40.
I run 7000 miles on my oil changes in the RX300.

I haven't really seen any improvement in gas mileage, but I have felt that the engine keeps its smoothness (perhaps the cleaning action?) even as the mileage pours on. Also, I have no consumption whatsoever. Another 2,500 miles and we will see the final outcome.

I have Mobil-1 (regular MB-1) 5W30 in now. I used the PU 5W30 before that, and I could not believe how fast it darkened on the dip stick. Which tell`s me it was doing some serious cleaning. I`m going back to the PU my next change, (I have 3 jug`s left) I want to really clean that baby out! I think it was heavily varnished, maybe even light sludge when I bought it in 2009, the 1st owner changed oil with conventional oil @ 5to 6k interval`s on the dealership`s bulk oil.

I'm partial to the standard Pennzoil 5w30 - My 300 now lives in Arizona and gets driven at the rate of about 5k per year. So, I do my changes every 6 months due to time only. For what it's worth, my engine doesn't burn a spec of oil, even when there was more mileage inbetween changes. Then again, it doesn't have much use on it as of yet. I have been thinking about going to the 5w30 Pennzoil Ultra but have heard of various inconveniences such as sudden leaks, etc. So...I can procrastinate with the best of them and just not change at all.
The intention, crazy as it may seem, is to preserve this car for the ages if at all possible. If another oil will help ensure that goal, then I'm all for it. I know that there are no easy answers to this and the given response is pretty much "your own personal preference". I haven't been convinced yet that going to a synthetic or a synthetic blend is the best thing.
Just my .02

My 2 cents
The best oil is CLEAN oil
Change it frequently before it gets super dirty. By the time it is a darker shade of brown, change it.
The cheapest oil at a frequent change interval will be much better than any more expensive oil when it is dirty.
As long as it is clean oil, it will be a very happy engine. I personally go for between 3-4k changes, and just let the shop dump in whatever they got.

I have been running Mobil 1 synthetic since 1986 in all my cars changing at around 10 to 15 k when I was on the road selling now, I change once a yea now about 5 to 7k.
used Mobil 1 products in my engines. Mobile 1 extended service. Transmission and power steering Mobil 1 synthetic trans fluid. Nothing ever wore out on any of my cars
1986 Cressida 529,000 miles 1991 Lexus 400 400k miles 2001 Lexus RX300 200k and still going strong. Synthetic fluids are way ahead of dino fluids for cold startups and
for really hot weather. Synthetic fluids help keep your engine clean and will let it last a lot longer.

Walmart "Super Tech" synthetic oil is amazing oil for the price. It will last 5000 to 7000 miles no problem. Even 10k Many people have tested it with great results.
It is best to use synthetic because it will last twice as long. I would make intervals 5k-7k with synthetic. Also ....NEVER use Fram filters, they are absolute trash.
ALWAYS stick with manufacture recommended weight. 5w30 for the RX... 0 weight will be too thin for the oil galleys in the block, and may cause low oil pressure upon initial start up.
