I just bought a 2000 RX300. The very next day my heater stopped working and a very loud annoying noise started to appear. I have the info regarding the heater issue but am trying to track down this noise....

To me, the noise sounds like an air pump that randomly goes off while driving. Every time I start the car, the noise appears and it runs like its filling up an air tank of sorts. After 15 seconds or so the noise stops. While driving, the noise randomly comes and goes.

I am going to assume it has something to do with heating system as turning the controls to hot makes the noise worse.

Anyone have any idea what this may be????

I hear the same noise but nothing with the heater. I don't know if your problem is the same as my. But i'm guessing is the vent lid is not working properly (motor to close the vent lid does not stop when the vent is close).
In my case - when ever (either me or the car auto climate control) change the air output to the leg, the noise would start (about 3 min). Didn't get a change to fix it yet...

Possible you have a servo issue. Very common in the RX300 and there's many posts in this forum on how to fix.
