Trailer Wiring
#16
Ok so i just took another look.. first... I looked for the secondary transmission cooler... from my understanding its on the pass side and looks like a radiator... i looked in the hole below the headlight on the front bumper..and there is indeed what looks like another radiator thats small there...... I looked under the seat directly behind the driver...and i cant see anything but carpet... i moved the seat forward..and removed the carpet backing that covers between the seat and the rear spare tire lid..and i also dont see a plug... now that i know i have the secondary cooler.... where exactly is this plug..and how do i access it...
And again..when i do find this plug..what parts am i looking for that will allow me to run the lights??
Cheers and thanks again for all the help..

OK, this is as good as its going to get: I found my original invoice AND the harness installation instructions for my OE trailer wiring module for my 1999 RX300. Once you read the instructions you will see why it is difficult to find the plug. The module is (was?) p/n PT207-48980 (it appeared on the invoice as PT207-00980 - no idea why different.) PM me and I will mail or fax you the instructions.

See my post from a couple of years ago for part numbers and installation information:

I just reread the original installation instructions that I still have from 1998 when I installed the module. The reason you're not finding the 'plug' is because - there isn't one! The wiring harness that comes with the 'module' extends from one taillight assembly to the other. Sounds confusing, but all will be clear if you look at the instructions.

Hmmm......... I don't think mine was like that (the module kit didn't come with anything that would substitute for the prewiring harness plug) but I do know that they changed it during the 1999 model year.

Looking at the instructions I now recall how difficult an installation it was, particularly trying to wedge my hand behind the plastic trim pieces and get up high enough to disconnect the plugs to the taillight assemblies on each side.

Ok i think that im going to just go to the etrailer route...seems cheaper, faster and works the same.... like i said before.. the car will be sold with the trailer hitch..so might as well make it functional.....
Anyone have knowledge of installing one of etrailer modules??
Cheers
