Default Harmonic vibration

I cant find my thread that I asked about this, but I want to report a finding which I suspected...My old RX would get a drone, and some sort of vibration through the floor...Nothing I tried worked for a solution...However the new owners(yea they contacted me) asked about it a few weeks ago, and asked for recommendations..since I had changed the drive shafts, wheel bearings, and nothing changed I told them that maybe the center bearing supports in the drive shaft to the rear wheels were suspect...They replaced them and problem is gone...
Good luck everyone...by the way the car was a 99 and had 188k miles...

Drive shafts are notorious for causing vibration.

There are three (or 4) adjustments .. based on my experience with other RWD vehicles.

1. Rotational balance. The existing shafts must be marked and put back in the same position (both front and back cross).

2. Angle. On a flat surface, unladen vehicle must make certain angle.

3. The slide portion must be adjusted (length).

4. Linearity (if there is adjustment) ... if them middle carrier allows.

If you get the vibration .. undo the joint and turn it 90 degrees and try again. Repeat if necessary.

Owner said the rear bearing mount was drooping real bad...I believe they said bearing was bad. After replacing the two bearing mounts which support the drive shaft to the rear (AWD) problem was fixed...Funny before I sold car that was going to be my next attempt...Well they are happy with the car, that is what matters...

Thomas, have you seen the magnetic transmitters that you can attach wherever you want on the car and then have a headset that you can select the different transmitters one by one to pin point noises like that? Pretty neat really. I believe you can put as many as you want on (as many as you can afford) at one time and then select one by one, to save time (and fuel, at today's gas prices).

Thomas, I'm going to have to go back and look at it again. It was on one of the professional tool feeds I get in my inbox. (hope I didn't jetison that, but I'm pretty sure I remember which Co. it was.)
