Default Guy advertising lock actuator repair in DC

FYI. I have no connection with this guy. I just noticed this ad to repair the lock actuator in the Wash DC area:

50-80% of work is in getting the lock mechanism out and back in.

I would highly recommend against doing 70% (est) of the work and paying some one else to do 30% work.

Risk of damage is predominantly in removing and installing the lock mechanism.

I have seen the exact lock motor for as little as $1. per motor, but you had to buy a large quantity to get that price. He says it takes him 1 to (2?) hours to do the job. Even though he has travel expenses and time, that's still a pretty good living if you could get enough of them to do. I would definitely do it for that.

Dealer quoted me $318 for just the part. Several eBay sources at $210 or thereabouts (for an OE part.) This guy (see post # 1 above) will do the entire job for $200 or, if I remove the actuator and take it to him (he is near me) he'll only charge $100.

If you can take the door lock out (and ) put it back in, just see the GS400 forum. Buy the mubachi motor and drop it in.

At the end it is your money.

Yep, Thomas, there are plenty of RX's in Org. County. I generally just help those that can't actually do what needs to be done and then ask them to pass it on. I don't really have time to do "pay" work, way too many projects of my own. I can't imagine a person being retired and being bored. I am a hands on type of guy and have to be fixing, building, fabricating, customizing or otherwise making use of those hands. Like my wife says, "keeps me off the streets and out of trouble".
