Thanks Hypervish, that info is really helpful. I would think that a smooth shifting transmission would be most ideal. A firm shift would be a step away from rough, which would result in more metal wear and maybe broken parts. Does this sound right?
If that is the case, I'll go for the OEM t-iv. I hear that Mobil 3309 is the same. Has that also been your experience?

Actually a firmer shift is better for longevity. The smoother the shift, the more clutch like material being worn away.
Mind you when I say firm, I mean you can feel the shift occasionally. With the T-IV you have to really try and feel for it. I wish I could explain it better. Many people won't see a difference in the way it shifts, I however have a sensitive butt dyno. If I could get the Castrol IMV for the same price as T-IV, I'd go with the Castrol every time.

These cars require T-IV, so in my opinion there really isn't any reason to chance putting anything else in. I decided a long time ago to keep the fluid in my cars bright red with T-IV. Have had excellent results - not saying there isn't a different way, but I chose to stay with T-IV and accordingly I sleep well at night.

What ATF you ultimately use should be a reflection of how you drive your RX300 and what you do with it. I haven't raced it in over 6 years, and now it gets more highway miles (and unlike Mexico I have access to many more quality fluids). More important, monitoring the mileage and quality of your fluid.

I changed my tranny fluid and flushed the power steering fluid with Mobil 1 ATF and the tranny works great. Its been in there for 40K miles so far. My power steering unit would squeal every now and then upon start up and since the flush it has quieted down, sounds normal now. There is a sticky I believe on how to flush the power steering fluid. I followed that procedure and 20K miles later it is still quiet upon start up. This worked very well for me on my 2001. I have 135K on her now and she runs like a top....so far.
