Rx300 Tow Question
Just curious but what exactly are current owners towing with the Rx300 these days. I plan on buying a boat some time in the near future and wanted to know if the Rx300 was powerful enough. I own a 2002'AWD
Thanks

I tow a 15' alumacraft w/ a 15 hp evinrude outboard... Not a heavy load by any means and tows pretty well. Also tow a similar weighted utility trailer. Granted it's not like towing with an Dually or an Expedition/Suburban, etc., but it's fine for a smaller size towable. One word of experience: your rear brake pads will wear faster if you do a decent amount of towing... DEFINATELY use your overdrive button to take advantage of engine braking to spare your brakes when towing... That's just good common towing sense though - a best practice if you will.

Polaris Jetski
Hi there, my new toy for this summer was a Polaris Virage TXi Jetski. Topped off (17 gallon tank!), with all the gear, and full size trailer that has a box, I'm right at about 1000lbs, I think? In any case, my 99 RX is a perfect tow vehicle for this load. I don't even notice it when accelerating, and barely notice on braking. It's funny to see all the cars are pulling next to you, rather than behind you at the light, thinking you going to be lagging, and then smoking them all I'm using a Lexus hitch which came with the vehicle. When driving I'm in "Power/Sport" mode. O/D is off up in the hills.
I believe the max load on the AWD models is about 3500lbs, and frankly I wouldn't test it over that. I've see a few guys towing their 19'rs at the lake, but that's about the max. You can't be too heavy on the tongue either - suspension is on the soft side. This ain't no F350!

I use my wife's RX300 (AWD) to pull a u-haul tandem axle with a load of firewood. As long as I remember that I am not in my GS430, it does very well. I cannot drive over about 55mph, but it gets good mileage, stops OK (the trailer has surge brakes) and is no problem. Better than I anticipated.
