Default OK to change ATF brands during drain-and-fill?

Is it OK to convert to synthetic ATF four during drain and fill? I think there's about 8 total quarts in the system so after the first drain and fill there would be about half synthetic half Toyota T-IV.

Name the brand of synthetic and people who have done this can provide you feedback. Apparently there should not be a problem [I have stayed with Toyota type IV]

Yep, done that and no problem...I switched to MObil 1 synthetic tranny fluid...ran it another 86k miles before I sold vehicle...better shifting and fluid stayed in better condition...

Wondering the Cost of ATF IV in the USA? I just spent £48 approximate 80 dollars on 5 litres of fluid. That was from lexus who were cheaper than Toyota.

ATF IV is not Toyota IV.

As song as the brand states that it can be an OEM replacement for Toyota Type-IV ATF then you should be ok. Just be careful of terms like Dexron-IV because that's not Toyota Type-IV. People on this board (including myself) have used Amsoil and Royal Purple with no issues.

Only use atf that specifically states it's for Toyota Type-IV... If it doesn't say that on the bottle (on the back side) then do not use it, it will kill your transmission. All transmissions are very sensitive to what fluid is used.

Here is what I used in my 01 RX; Castrol multi import vehicle fluid,Wolf`s Head universal fluid, and Mobil-1. All worked very well, and improved the shift from first to second gear. Amsoil made it worse.

Agreed! I've replaced 4 quarts with Mobil1 and it's definitely shifting smoother. Wish I had done it earlier.

I thought mobil1 atf synthetic is no longer available in the stores. Are they available now?
