Default Quick question on the transmission fluid exchange

I am 1750 miles into an Auto-Rx transmission treatment and plan to drop the pan (again), change the filter and do a fluid exchange with Synthetic.

My question is this: Is anything gained by shifting thru the gears as I pump the fluid thru the transmission and out the return line from the oil cooler as described in the TunedRX300 sticky? I don't understand the fluid paths and would like to get as much exchanged as possible.

Thanks
Scott

Scott,
I would have suggested skipping the Auto-RX in the trans. ATF is some of the highest detergent of any automotive fluid, hence the reason you don't see any"dirt" deposited (normally) in an AT, no matter how dirty the fluid is. There is no combustion in there and with very high detergency, nothing much ever "sticks", as in an engine. If you see everything black in the trans. when you pull the pan, it has been HORRIBLY abused, and probably isn't long for this world.
The answer to your question is no, there is nothing gained by shifting through the gears. If you remove the line where it returns from the cooler to the trans., you are pumping all the fluid out that will come out. When it starts to come through nice and red, you're finished. I have recently posted the procedure I used on my brothers '05 Highlander and it is quite similar on your RX.

Code58. Appreciate the reply. Certainly makes it less likely my wife will drive over me While my fluid was dirty it didn't smell foul or burned and the magnets had gooey sludge on them, the pan was not covered with it and no metal shavings were detected. Also, it had a aftermarket (?) filter instead of the metal screen which suggests it had been serviced in it's distant past. Live and learn. I added 6 oz. to the 9+ quarts of Toyota Type IV and the after 1750 miles the shift from 1st to 2nd progressively became crisper. Was it the Auto-Rx or the new fluid? Hopefully the Auto-Rx didn't hurt.

Couple more questions. Heard good things about Wolf's Head Universal ATF. Your thoughts. Also, could you provide the link to your procedure on your brother's car.

Thanks
Scott
