I have a 1999 Lexus RX300.
I bought it about a month ago with 174,000 miles on it for school commute.
& now it's time for an oil change.
I have no clue when it comes to high mileage cars, so can you guys tell me what you guys use?
I use a 5-30 on my 2004 Nissan Murano with 80k miles on it ...
Also, synthetic or no?
Thank you very much!
Kind regards.

Obviously you'll get other suggestions, but with that many miles, I do believe it would be good to use a high mileage oil. There are advantages to it in a high mileage vehicle. Since you recently bought it and likely don't know it's history, I would suggest considering pulling the front valve cover off to see how clean (or dirty, sludged) it may be. that will have a bearing on what is used. If it's not real dirty, I would suggest Castrol Conventional High Mileage oil. If it's real dirty, maybe another route.
Do pay close attention to the trans fluid also!

I'm going to suggest German Castrol 0W-30, pretty much everyone on this forum loves it. I don't use it, but it's a great oil. I use Pennzoil Ultra, I would suggest that too, but sometimes it's hard to find in 5W-30. Otherwise, it's a great oil. Both of these oils are synthetic.
I agree with Code58 you should take off the valve cover and see how it is under there.
Drain and fill the transmission with Castrol Multi-Vehicle Import ATF, it works great.
