Default I hope it gets better than this

Well, hello to all. I just purchased my 1999 RX300(Silver AWD) Friday. I love it, but am sort of disappointed so far. 2 problems so far. the first is noones fault really. Had a flat tire the first day I got it, and just so happened that the wheel lock key was not in there, so I had to call the dealer and they rollbacked the car to the dealer. Got there at 9pm, so drove a Camry that night. Picked it up the next day and drove it for 2 days. Going today to get insurance and tag on it, and went to crank it up, and well.. the display screen would not come on. blank. Took it to the dealer and they sent it to Lexus in Charlotte. They have to order a display, so its 3-4 days. I am back in a Camry. Hell, I have driven the Camry more than the Lexus! DOH! I hope this is not a bad omen. Anyone else had problems with their display screen going out completely?

Thanks! And I HOPE it gets better!!

Lil4cyl, maybe the Lexus Gods want you to appreciate your RX300 more by making you drive the Camry around for a while...

Your situation sounds like an anomaly. These are solid vehicles with a great reputation. I'd prefer to have problems happen up front rather than wait months down the road for them.

Best of luck,
Hando

Another anomaly is the Camry, I think. I thought all Lexus dealers only have Lexus for a loaner? I hate to see us look like BMW service.

My neighbors' X5 goes to the dealership about once a month for service. My neighbor is so "lucky" to have driven just about any car she gets as a loaner, i.e., Honda Civic, Ford Winstar, Ford Explorer, etc.

You are lucky in a sense since all these problems are now occuring before warranty expires. You would be assured that the weak parts are gone when the warranty lapses on you.

Lil4cyl,

Welcome to CL. You have come to the right place. I've been to a tire shop twice for tire repairs in the last 6 months. The powers that be should really clean the roads better.

They'll fix your problems and it will get better...You are a Lexus owner. You'll get it back and enjoy it.

Meanwhile, burn a little rubber in the Camry.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I am driving a Camry because I bought the RX at a Toyota dealership in Gastonia, NC. The nearest Lexus dealer is in Charlotte(Hendrick), and When the problem happened I took the car straight to the sales manager at the dealer I bought it at and let him see it. (I was displeased i guess). They issued me the 02' Camry loaner and sent the RX to the Lexus dealer. I was actually unaware of the 50k everything warranty on it. I guess from now on if I have a problem I will just deal directly with the Lexus dealer. And at least drive a Lexus loaner. It has 41k miles on it so I have 9k to get the bugs worked out of it if there are anymore of them. I took it in Monday, and they told me they would have to order the display and it would take a few days. So I am going through major withdrawals even after only driving it a couple hundred miles this past weekend. I want it back NOW!

Lil4cyl,
Be aware that it's 4 years or 50k... whichever comes first. Your Lexus dealer will be able to tell you when the vehicle was originally purchased and how long you have until the factory warranty expires.

also to note, I believe some RX's were purchased under a 3 years 50k warranty like mine...

Best of luck,
Hando

Lil4cyl:

Just thought I'd pass along (as another CL member in Charlotte) the Hendrick Lexus only has Lexus loaners. I ususally get an RX or an IS Sportcross, sometimes an ES.

Welcome to CL!

I got it back today. I love driving it again. I am not used to "Luxury" coming from sports car backgrounds, and this is beyond nice. Its great. Hopefully it'll give me alot of good miles.
