I have a 2000 RX300, got about a year ago. On my way home after I bought it, the center display went out. This is listed in the manual as the multi display, it shows radio station, temperature, fan speed etc.
I took it back to the dealer, they said they removed and reinstalled the unit and it worked.
A few weeks later it went out again. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. The clock has never worked, i can set the correct time and the time never changes. The display has worked all summer, now its out again. Its NOT a button that accidentally got pushed turning off the light.
Occasionally in the winter, after driving for a half hour, the display would finally come on. I've been in the dark for a week now, I'm hoping it will come back on, but it doesnt look likely.
I called a dealer in Minneapolis and they want $4500 for a new one as long as mine is in good enough shape for them to rebuild. If not, they want $9000. I called Lexus of Omaha and they can replace it for $1200. Anybody know of another source for these display screens? I dont know as its worth that much for me on a 11 yr old car. Its just an inconvenience not knowing what radio station I'm on, or what temperature and fan speed I'm set on.

I find it hard to believe the center display is worth that much. Have you checked any junkyard's. Here's a link for a database of junkyards: www.car-part.com

 

A junk yard (i.e., auto recycler). There are companies on eBay, and elsewhere, parting out RX300s. The weight isn't that much, so shipping charges shouldn't be too bad.
