Default Rx no start problem really wierd

okay guys, i dislike making this my first post but i looked and looked and didn't find anything similiar.

I have a 2001 RX300 Silversport.

When i turn the key to the on position it takes the car about 20 seconds for the dash lights to flicker on , and there is a hum coming from underneath about where the starter kinda is.

When you turn the key to start the car, it shuts off all accessories and the dash goes black and NOTHING happens.

If you hit the brakes, the dash lights go out and everything turns off.

If you hold the brakes, THEN turn the key, you can get the starter to "click"

The battery has been replaced. I do not believe that is the problem, i also don't think it's the starter. Really feels like a short.

Welcome to Club Lexus!

Sounds like a starter to me... But, how are the battery connections? Tight? Corrosion?

thanks for all the quick replies

i found out that the battery terminal connectors were shot. So the battery was prioritizing.
Cleaned the battery connectors with sand paper and all was well. Corrosion is very bad.

Now i have to gas it to keep it running. So i think i have to clean the throttle plate. Any write ups on that? I found a write up for cleaning the IAC i believe? hopefully that is the same?

rep to all you guys. thank you so much. (just noticed i can't rep on this board) Thank you so much!!!!

Good to hear you fixed the problem!!
Yes, there's a diy on here for throttle body cleaning, iacv, and maf. All of them can be found in the sticky thread on the main page.
