Replace rear rotor DIY w/pic?
Hi guys,
Sorry to have to open a thread for this. If someone can give the proper link, this can be deleted afterwards.
I kept searching for DIY with pic on how to replace not just the rear pads, but also take off the rear rotor. As I read in some threads, it require some alignment and I would really love to see some pictures to make sure I know what is needed.
I am planning to order the rear rotors and rear pads soon to replace the OEM stufff.
Thanks all!

Not that much to it. Just an old school drum brake set up for the parking brake inside the rotor. I never touch the star wheel and my rotors fall right off and my parking brake works fine.

I began looking for the rotor and pad online to see if I can save some money instead of going with Toyota parts.
I found this rotor which is said to be exact fit for RX300, but it mentioned that it has the drum in hat parking brake.
I was wondering how I can change the drums too.

It is two in one piece.
If nothing is wrong with the parking brake shoes, the drum-disc should come off easily. If the parking shoes have cut a groove inside the drum portion, you will have to manipulate the star wheel. If you have not worked with the drum brakes, I would suggest stop and take it to a mechanic. If the disc-drum comes off easy, go ahead with the swap. Do put a breathing mask before you take the drum off. All the wear off is concentrated inside the drum.
There are many posts on a size mismatch between AWD and FWD. So make sure before you purchase and measure outer-radius before installation.

Thanks for the reply.
Looking at the link that was provided by another member.
It seems like it's not hard to take out the rotor.
I do question if the rotor I want to order has the rotor and the shoes separate.

This is the one I'm looking at.
It just that I have not seen any DIY on how to change the shoe, which I read that it most likely don't need replacement.
I do however have to look at how to adjust the parking brake cable because it seems to have some slack now and not as tight as before.
update:
I asked the vendor and it seems like this is just a barebone rotor and that it's "compatible" with the hat in drum parking brake system. That makes it more clear to me now.
