integrate iphone with 2001 2002 rx300
I am looking at purchasing a 2001 or 2002 Lexus RX300. I noticed the after market radio and nav system say they are incompatible. Is there a way to setup the RX300 so that I can dock my iPhone 4S and be able to charge my phone, use the TomTom iPhone app, talk using bluetooth, and listen to my music? I am looking for a docking option, not a suction cup, or FM transmitter, or cigarette lighter cradle. I was maybe looking for a wire that would run into the car radio and a bluetooth system that can be added on. I currently have a 95 Toyota Camry with a JVC radio with the bluetooth adapter, which I bought bundled from Crutchfield. I love how it works. I want to be able to re-create that experience with the Lexus, if not better.
I really want the radio system to be great if I'm going to buy one of these Lexus models.

I'm using a fm modulator which is different from a fm transmitter because the modulator is wired in and powered so it blocks out all other stations and static. I have put up 2 videos on youtube about it, here's the link. The device is called iSimple IS77.
For bluetooth capability, get a blackberry bluetooth stereo adapter, and plug that into the aux which you will get with the fm modulator, and then you will have bluetooth too. I plan on buying the blackberry bluetooth stereo adapter soon. WIll post a video on it, once I get it and install it.
You won't be able to dock the phone with the modulator obviously, because it's just a wire. But, you can get a windshield mount, for when you use the tom-tom on the iPhone. (that's what I do).

I bought it off of ebay for $40. So, it was pretty cheap in my case. The next day after I bought mine, I saw one sell for $30, I wish I had waited, but whatever $40 is cheap compared to the price at best buy (includes installation though).

I bought mine at best buy ($150). I haven't installed it yet. I'm returning it. I bought one through Amazon. I paid under $50. The installation is straight forward right?

Let me ask a question (and perhaps I'm the noobie at this though I've done something similar with our 4Runner).
If I were to switch to the RX300 navigation console, would it be possible to hookup my Iphone via an Apple AV composite cable to the system (probably not directly, but through some interface), so I'd be able to get sound/video?
Reason I ask this is that on our 4Runner, we have a Pioneer Avic D3, with an Apple A/V composite cable plugged in directly and then coming under the glove compartment so that we can hookup the Iphone. I have a Iphone 3GS that I know would need to be jailbroken and use the TV2OUT app, but we also have an Iphone 4S that can do it directly for things like youtube, slingbox, netflix (Iphone 4 and above need not be jailbroken to do this).
I know of course that the pretty blue screen I have on my existing unit (which is a nakamichi unit on my 99) wouldn't suffice in the video department.

I am using the Cassette adapter and it plugs right right into the Iphone no headset to worry about. Listen to the stereo, if the phone rings (just have the adapter sitting in the cassette slot) push it in plug it in the Iphone and talk hands free.

Although, I'm not sure exactly how it's done. Once the navigation units drop to $500, I'll definitely get it for my RX300 and retrofit it to work using the DIY on here.

I'm planning on making it bluetooth soon. I'm going to purchase a blackberry music gateway bluetooth stereo receiver. Basically I will connect that to the 3.5mm and connect the power to it. This will create a bluetooth connection I can connect to on my iphone, and stream music and use it as a handsfree device.

All done just finished installing it. Its awesome. The iPod cable is better off. With the 3.5mm I can hear the hissing noise when the car accelerates.
Thanks again guys.

Me and my boy did it. He did the wiring. If I recall there was a white and a black wire in the cigarette charger thing. I'll double check later on this week thanks for the info.
