I have a 2000 RX 300 with 148K which I purchased with 28K as a CPO in 2004. The car has been well maintained and all sensors were replaced by Lexus at 113K. Lexus also performed a transmission fluid flush at the time.
Mechanically the car is a top and I am contemplating spending around $1000 to sort out a few minor cosmetic issues.
Given the age, mileage, high resale value and the potentially high cost of a new transmission, I am on the fence on whether or not to purchase a newer model or fix mine up and hope for the best.
I noticed a few posts where it was mentioned that a few people have people have gotten more mileage than me on the original transmission, however, I also understand that many others have seen transmission failure starting as low as 100K
Would welcome thoughts for both scenarios,
Thanks,
Dan

If you have the itch to purchase a new vehicle then you will keep finding reasons to switch.
On the other hand you can save away the $1000 and keep adding to it the payments you would make to purchase the new vehicle and in few moths you will have more saved than what it would take you to fix the transmission [There is a big IF]. Now you can keep going for moths and if you are disciplined enough you can have enough to make what ever purchase you want to make.
The above advice may be the best for you financially, but on the other hand you may like to pump some $$$$$ into the economy.
