I've put close to 20 gallons in my wife's '02. I remember it was more than 19.0..
I believe official capacity after the tank was enlarged is 19.8 gallons.
BTW, I've always run vehicles to almost empty...never have had an in-tank fuel pump fail, and many of these were high-mileage machines.

You run her wherever you want, it's your car. But that isn't an old wives tale, it's for real info, and for the reasons that were stated.

While it is true, it's not the amount of fuel in the tank which makes a difference. The way it has been interpreted is what makes it urban myth/an old wive's tale.
It's the fuel going through the pump which is the coolant. Therefore, if it's pumping, it's cooling. If the vehicle is running, the pump is being cooled, period.
Now, don't run it dry, but that's not a common, or likely, scenario. At least more than once. Modern Americans don't like walking.
