That is great news...please keep us all posted as to how it runs afterwards. Sorry if I missed this earlier but did you take your '99 to Lexus exclusively for service or not?

That's awesome, I'm glad Lexus was willing to assist!

I purchased car a year ago. 90% of the service record was at Lexus or Toyota dealership.

Interesting. I'd be willing to bet that helped your cause quite a bit.

The lesson? These transmissions were of defective design such that in a significant percentage of cases routine maintenance could not prevent failure.

Not necessarily, this person did a FLUSH. And, it's a well known fact that a transmission fluid flush, will usually result in transmission failure, and that's true for any car, not just the RX300. Now, I'm not saying the failure could have been avoided, but I'm sure doing a drain and fill instead of a flush would have been much more beneficial. And, it wouldn't have sent debris throughout the transmission and into the valve body.

More than likely it would be both if not entirely #2.

Lexus customers should keep this in mind when Lexus charges a premium for vehicles, parts and service.

And if it's like most manufacturers, the dealers usually have to chip in their share, too (that, among other things, is why it never does any good to loose your cool with the dealership).

We can debate forever whether or not the flush caused this failure. I myself have not done a flush because of the discussions here on this board. Then again my '99 doesn't have that much mileage on it.

Some may disagree, but at the end of the day I truly believe that the overwhelming majority of these cars do not have issues with the transmissions.

Is T Tech the same as transmission flush? I didn't take it that way when it was described to me. It was described as a fluid exchange.

Re-read original post and have a correction. I did a drain and fill, not a flush....I had read the many posts on this forum originally, so did not make that mistake. My bad..... I purchased car and did a drain and fill immediately...anyway, picked up car today and with sales tax my out of pocket was $1755. Runs great, actually my wife commented that it felt much tighter all the way around.
