Default what are the pros and cons of a k&n air filter?

More horsepower? Gas mileage? Etc?

Debating whether its worth the $44 bucks or not.

Pro: Washable
Con: Washable, it's a pain to wash/dry and oil them.
Con: The oil tends to gunk up MAF sensors and IAC valves (exasperated by over oiling).

Pro: Slightly Better Flow
Con: Slightly worse filtering

Pro: Slight HP gain at WOT

Con: Cost, you can buy 4 paper filters and throw them in the trash for the same $ as a K&N and oil (paper might be cheaper depending on how long you own the vehicle).

Pro: Ricers will give you much props.
Con: Ricers will give you much props.

Pro: Ricers will think you have added 50 HP
Con: You will be lucky to see 5 HP.

Not worth the effort to clean them, add the chance of oiling your MAF and IAC valve and it does not make sense to me on a daily driver.

I also don't think it's worth it. Plus, it will usually throw a MAF code, because of the oil.

Just stick with an OEM air filter, they are cheap at only about $13.

i was going to point out how the oiled filters have been thought to 'gunk up' the intact tracts.
to solve this, a few years ago K&N came out with oil-less filters

I'll chime in.

It's more about long-term cost-savings than anything else.

My wife's car will get one sometime later this week. I've had them, previously, and never ran into any intake problems, but then, you have to be careful to not over-oil.

not worth the money to me...only if it had silk&gold trim,...but just my two cents.....because you will have to replace anyhow.

I brought a K&N filter for my IS250....I really didn't like the idea of the oiling of the filter....then I found out the Lexus makes a F-Sport filter that is washable and doesn't require oiling. If only Lexus would make this for other Lexus vehicles.
