Rx 300 vs VBMW X5
I currently own a 1999 Bronze RX 300 AWD with 38,000 miles on the clock. Great car and perfect service from the local dealer. Only a couple of problems and all taken care of with most professional attention to detail.
My wife thinks I should trade this one on a new RX with a Nav system. She owns and drive a 2002 BMW 525. Of course I tried an X5 BMW with the 3.0 power plant. Love the BMW drive and feel. It handles much like her 525 only larger. My Lexus is like a Asian Buick in the handling department, but a very nice ride.
Now the question; Given that the BMW is $6K more expensive than a new Lexus, which is the better longer term car??
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Stu

I agree with LexRX.
Wait till the new Rx comes out and test drive it. My parents own the X5 and I love the vehicle too. But with the new RX coming out and having 5 years of adjustments and improvements under its belt, I'm a little undecided as to what to get when my 99 gets a bit older.
IMO, in the long run, I think you will be better off with lexus. if youre comparing a BMW to a lexus, there are more "little" problems with a BMW than a lexus. My extended family owns plenty of bmw's and so do all my friends. I think I'm the only one that went with lexus (I tried to convert them)
In other news, I just recently went to the BMW web site and built my dream X5. Along the way I saw that they were offering a 4 (3 yr?) year, completly free maintenance coverage plan! wow! they said that break pads etc would all be covered! man, im going into get my breaks changed soon and its gonna cost me ~400+ (lexus says).
So considering this maintenance option they have, I would say the 6k different isnt all that much anymore. I paid so much for my 35k service, and all the other smaller services here and there, the 6k diff is more like a 2k diff.
If lexus offered a free maintenance plan, that would be another story.
