99 RX 300 leaking coolant from front passenger side
My coolant overflow has been draining as fast as I can put antifreeze in it. I have a puddle that seems to start just in front of the oilpan but no obvious leaks from the radiator. Could it be coming from the water pump? I had it replaced when I had the timing belt done at about 125,000 miles. The car is now at 178,000 miles. If this is the likely culprit, I would rather try the replacement myself. I'm fairly mechanically inclined and do most of the work on the car myself but for some reason find the whole timing belt, water pump job somewhat intimidating. Any thought? Experiences? I would really appreciate any input as I really have to take care of this in the near future as it is my daily commuter. Thanks in advance.

Water pump leaking coolant at a fast rate is unusual, but anything can happen. I would suggest using light and mirror to trace the source of the problem.
My hunch is that a hose or a clamp is bad. There is a hidden hose at the top of the engine block (see the knock sensor thread), There is a coolant loop to the IACV.
Check out the two video clips on replacing the Tbelt.

Ok, maybe it isn't the water pump, I don't see any leaking in that area. I still have a hard time identifying all of the radiator hoses. Can anyone help me in the correct areas to look? I have traced what I can but I can't see where they end. The car still isn't overheating and I haven't repaced any fluid in a couple days, but the overflow resovoir is still empty. I thank you all again in advance for your thoughts.

You need to have the system pressure tested. That will reveal the where the leak is in a heartbeat. If you don't hve a pressure tester (probably not), go to a radiator shop, they should be able to test it for you.

Overheating can lead to lots of other problems and with the coolant low, you can get to a point where the temp gauge wont even show HOT.
The way you stated the problem, it seems the vehicle leaks like a sieve as you fill it. That level of leak should be traceable. Pressure test (if you can build pressure) would be shooting out the coolant. for easier discovery.
The basic trick about DIY is to know when to go to a professional. It has very little to do with the ability and most of the time it has to do with tools (price) and in some cases access (lift etc) and in some cases risk (I refrain to do things that have a potential of loosing a a limb). It may be that point for you. It does not need to be an expensive repair shop.
