Shelf life of "Toyota Red" antifreeze?
"
Thanks carguy07. I saw the low coolant level and forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder. This RX just had a flush at the dealer a couple months ago. Think I'll email the dealer that pic and see they will add a couple cups of the red in the reservoir. The invoice for the dealer work says two of at $21.95 each, I don't want to buy a gallon and have it sit around for three years (or more).
"
The research I just did says the rust inhibitors don't hold up well over time. Maybe the red is different? (it does say "Super Long Life"). Anyone have an idea of the shelf life of 00272-SLLC2 antifreeze ?
Thanks,
Brcobrem

I don't know the answer to that question but I can say that it has a very long life IN the radfiator, so don't know why it wouldn't on the shelf. If you have a car that calls for the RED, I believe that's called Long Life and the PINK is called Super Long Life. I changed the red (which came in my DIL's '99 RX originally) at 97K mi. and it looked like it had just been poured in. The cooling system was absolutely as new. There wasn't even the faintest trace of sediment of any kind in the bottom of the clear jugs I put the old in so I gave it to my son to add when needed. It has the replacement coolant that I put in at 97K mi. (6 years and 70 K mi. ago and it still looks absolutely new. You can see the new looking tops of the radiator tubes right through it, though it's the original radiator at 170K mi. It is one spectacular coolant, I can tell you that.
Since I don't see any vehicle listed in your profile, I don't know which coolant your car would call for.
