Fuel Door Problem - need help
1999 RX300. The fuel door no longer flips open when the passenger compartment lever is raised. The lever does retract the pin that locks the flap, but the door does not 'spring open' when it should. I've never seen this problem reported before. Any suggestions on how this can be fixed? I suspect that there is some spring lever in the flap door hinge - is it user replaceable? TIA.

It is NOT the cable. As I stated in my original post, the lever does retract the pin that locks the flap; problem is that once unlocked, the door does not 'spring open.'

First clean the the hinge with wd40 and add a lubricant.
If things start working you are done.
After confirming the hing is moving freely, you can try adjusting the metal push off strip ... half-way down the hinge. Study the push off and if you increase the angle, it would push off the lid a bit more. The spring action is based on tempering and the more it is subjected to adjustment(s) it will lose the bounce.

Problem solved. Dealer had the part in stock, p/n 77360-48010. $5.00. Installation took 2 minutes.

How about the release lever? Does it travel back to normal position? How is the feel as you pull it up?
You can clean the pin with wd40 and then use graphite lubricant.
Caution, you should investigate the condition of the cable and jacket. Staying open (pin pushed back) is less of a problem than pin staying stuck in lock position.
