Default 98 RX 300 Gearbox

Hi Guys, need some help here, my gearbox is having some issues and the mechanic tells me it needs replacing.. apparently there seems to be some kind of rattle coming out of it. and when you drive after it being idle for a while it sluggish to Change..and takes forever to change from 3rd to 4th. is this really gone.? can anything be done.. did a full flush and a filter change to makes things a bit better.

i checked for a replacement gearbox here in aussie and its $4k,

If you did a search on gearbox, you would have found no match. Try 'transmission' or 'tranny'.

Flush by external pumps is a no no (general consensus).

If you have gone to a competent mechanic, I doubt any one here can remotely diagnose the problem any better. Although a fair question to ask the mechanic would be .... what steps were done to lead to the diagnosis ... particles in the fluid? or was the pan removed and filter checked etc.

Here in US the replacement run between 3.4k to 5k.

If you get the replacement done, make sure the transmission (gearbox) you get has the upgraded planetary gear.
