Default Timing Belt DIY?

My 2000 Lexus RX300 now has 172,000. Service reciepts indicate a timing belt change at 95,000 so I know I am due soon. I've done a lot of work (timing belts included) on beamers and volkswagens, but based on the fact there is no DIY on this forum and some of the comments, I'm guessing it is a fairly challenging procedure. Has anyone done their timing belts themselves. I could dish out the est. $300-$500 but I would prefer to do it myself, maybe do the plugs and water pump at the same time. Thoughts?

Are there any good service manuals for the 2000 RX300?

Many have gone before you. There is plenty of help on the forums and, as Thomas said, You-tube is there as well. A video is worth a thousand words, and it's well done also. I've done it, as well as my brother. If you have ADD, or don't follow directions well, spend the money, otherwise common sense and available help will get the job done. I would also say $3-500. would be pretty cheap!

Lexus published Service manuals (run over $100 each). VOl 2 is what you should get. Worth its weight in gold for DIYer. Keep looking and you may get one for cheap. There are illigit pdfs floating around.

I would strongly urge you examine the ideller/rollers. Get OEM belt as it has markings that will help you. Also remember the belt marking only work on the first time .... if you turn the engine by 360x2 (4 stroke) the markings do not come at the same point [the gears lineup but the belt marks work on some other multiple.

I would not start the job till I have the stud extractor handy.
