depreciation % on rx300
i've been researching the depreciation % for the vehicles i'm considering. from what i've read about the rx300...it has one of the better vehicles at holding its value. same with the mdx. the other vehicle i'm looking at.
my question...with the rx330 coming out next year...will the depreciation accelerate with the new design coming out.
even though i plan to keep the rx300 for awhile...it would be nice to know that it will still be valuable in the market. even with with the new design.

Supply and demand, my friend. When the new RAV4 came out, the old models quickly depreciated. I think the same goes for all cars.
But being a Lexus, and being the RX300, I'm sure it wont drop through the floor. This is a highly appreciated vehicle and to some a symbol of success. Having a newer model coming out wont change that much.
As a general rule though, when the new model comes out, the old one loses some value, as it loses some appeal/demand.
There may be a lot more to it, but that's my take.
Best of luck,
Hando

One thing that I do remember is when Camry production went to the States, the depreciation was not the same versus a Japan vs. Japan model. Since the new RX is going to be made in Canada with a U.S. motor, the depreciation might not be the same.
Noting some people's negative comments about the looks of the new RX, I am also reminded of the late 80s Jaguar XJ6, and its change to a more boxy style. While Jaguar's in the 80s were a highly depreciating asset, that trend stopped for a short time, when the newer Jaguar came out.

yeah...i read that the rx300 has one of the best, if not best, depreciation values.
but i'm a little skeptical whether that will continue when the rx330 comes out.

True when the news about the GX came out people were saying how much the value of the LX will drop. They were also giving advice on selling their LX before the GX hit the market so it wouldnt lose as much of its value. I'm thinking the value of the RX is continue to drop but when the new RX comes out I think it will drop a lot faster because the RX is already a great selling SUV and makes up most of the sales for Lexus. When the new RX comes out I wouldnt think much would change because improving the RX with everything its going to have the first gen RX would lose some of its value and appeal. This is just my opinion but with a totally new styling and all the appealing things its going to have who wouldnt want a 2nd gen RX over the 1st gen RX? Its actually quite amazing how the RX was able to keep so much of its value for such a long time.

Depreciation Percent
Howdy,
According to Kiplinger's December 2002 car reports, the RX300 has a 59% value after 2yrs and 45% of its value in four. Only the Hondas and Toyotas seem to hold their value like the Lexus.
