Default Valve Stem Seals

Greetings.
Included in the gasket set from Lexus are 24 valve stem seals. 12 of which are in a separate bag and are gold cad plated and 12 of them are silver cad plated. Obviously 12 of them are for the exhaust and the others are for the intake. If someone can give me the heads up on these it would be greatly appreciated.
Also I noticed that some of the mating surfaces us a sealant with no gasket. Would you recommend a sealant from Lexus or will something like Yamabond work?
Thanks, Phil

P.S. When I am not figuring out how do a top end on my girlfriend's Lexus I work on this in my spare time.

In Morro Bay Cal with the right side fairing.

I am building quarter scale running models of the Munro Special. This in the engine.

Have a good Thanksgiving.

Hi Salim,
Didn't mean to step on any toes. Most people like seeing the World's Fastest Indian. You should go see the movie if you haven't already. BTW. Gold valve seals are on the intake and silver are exhaust.

My bad ,, it was before I had my coffee. Little voice did tell me that I am missing something ... You are discussing RX300.

Under CL there are better Forum to discuss other activities. There you will find wider (more than RX300) audience with common interest(s). Such as 'car chat'

Hey PSchack, nice bike! Out of curiosity, how many miles did the motor have on it when you tackled the VSS? I just hit 100k on my 01 RX300 and I'm showing symptoms of bad VSS. I had the same problem on my 3000GT VR4 at 150k miles. Do you happen to happen to know the thickness of the valve stem? I have a tool to remove and install valve spring/retainer that I used when I did it on my 3000GT. It's an amazing tool that makes it so much easier to remove/install springs. However, I cannot find the specs to the valve stems for the 1MZ-FE so I'm not sure if this tool would work. Thanks in advance.

Default Cayucos

My wife and I were in Cayucos in early November. On our way home just pass Morro Bay is when our CEL came on and now we are getting a remanufactured engine for our 2001 RX.

Is the bike on display in Morro Bay. We love Cayucos and probably will return in the spring. We loved the movie also.

Guys . this is what I was concerned about .. Please keep the public discussion here about RX. I would encourage you to use PM or chat room for sustained off topic things.

Hi Daniel,

The valve stem diameter is 5.5 mm. The tool you have is a knock off of the original built by a buddy of mine who has a shop in the same complex my shop is in. He did the valve work on my engine. It turns out I had a cracked head and blown head gaskets. The car has a bit over 200K miles on it. About two years ago the water pump seized. I suspect it got pretty hot so that is when most of the damage was done. These guys had the best deals I could find on genuine Lexus parts.

PSchack, thanks for the reply. So turns out I can use that tool to tackle the VSS. But now, my car doesn't seem to have the symptoms anymore. Funny how things turn out. I suspected it was the VSS because my VR4 had the exact same symptoms when the VSS went bad. But now, it seems as if the symptoms have disappeared for now. Eh, I'll have to see. But thanks again for the info on the valve stem!
