Fluid Changes- Question
Hi Guys,
Im new to the boards and just bought a 1999 RX300. I went to the dealership to have it look over and cover anything that warranty can cover.
They gave me the chart of maintance the RX is supposed to have every 15/30/60/90 thousand miles and saw that the Tranny and Rear Diff Fluids need to be changed every 15K miles.
Is this true? I Work for a BMW/ Audi Performance Company-
UUC Motowerks and know that gerrman cars don't need it changed this often.
Please advise.
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,
If you work for an auto related company, then I would have assumed that you know that the ONLY fluid change interval that matters is the one located in the vehicle's owners manual. What the service center "shows" you is the one they want you to follow in order to increase their profit center.
You should have gotten an owners manual set when you purchased your CPO Lexus. If not, then you need to raise a stink.
If you purchased the Lexus via private 3rd party, then you need to make sure that Lexus knows you are the registered owner. This can be accomplished via your local dealer or by contacting Lexus directly at www.lexus.com. They can also tell you how to get a set of manuals.
Good luck.

That is the dealers recommended schedule, which is based on maximum profit, not the manufactures. Notice that the tranny dipstick has lifetime fluid - do not change stamped on it. Over at edmunds.com you can view the manufactures recommended schedule. Hope this helps.
