Exhaust Leak
Hello,
I've had a exhaust leak for some time and finally decided to track it down. I found that it was located near the front of the vehicle, slightly after the exhaust manifold (under the car). The leak is located in a short 4-6" section of tubing that is well....flared is the based way to describe it. It is actually flared several times. The exhaust tubing goes from normal smooth tubing to this flared section to normal tubing. If I had to guess it is probably some sort of means to expel heat.
Can someone tell me what the name of this small section is, whether it has to be cut out to be replaced, and when replacing this section...what would happen if it were to be replaced with normal tubing instead of flared tubing.
Thanks

I believe you are referring to the Flex Pipe.
It needs to be flexible, you can not put straight piping on to it as it may crack the exhaust manifold when the engine moves (due to the torque). The flex pipe is pretty cheap, around $65.

maybe there is a difference in production. I was expecting stainless steel braided piece.
It would help me to get a better idea if another picture (less closeup) is posted.

Well after looking around it appears that it is a flex pipe. There is a video online of some guy prying apart the flared sections and it opening up. I guess it served its function by cracking there instead of further toward the engine.
Anyone know the part number for this item? Can it be replaced with the type of stainless steel braided piece that Salim referred to?

Some one posted the whole exhaust system. I will try to search and post a link in here.
