Default HELP engine failed

We have a 2002 rx with 101m miles.Just had the 90m service done 2000miles ago, We we driving and all of a sudden the car started shaking and the engine was running very rough. We got it to dealer and they said the #2 cylinder is bad, busted piston ring. Question is how much for a new engine or would it be better for a replacement block. The dealer says it is around 7or8 thousand. This seems really high and the car is in great shape otherwise. All maintenance done by dealer .really upset with lexus.
Should we even fix this car or just junk it.Thanks Jimbo

Lots of things can make the engine run "very rough". How did they diagnose the problem and come to the conclusion that it was caused by a broken piston ring?

If the dealer is right you could buy used engine cheaper price.

Look at www.car-part.com to get an idea of what used engines cost at the salvage yard. And, then call around a few independent shops who specialize in toyota/lexus and see how much labor they will charge. I guarantee it will be much less than 7-8 grand.

I have purchased several engines from www.gearheadengines.com They have all been in use now for over a 100K miles with no issues. They are in Ford F250 Super Duties.
