Government cracks down on SUV fuel economy...
The government has mandated that all SUVs/light trucks increase their fuel economy 1.5 gallons by 2007. See attached link from CNN:

How lame...I saw this report on TV last night and immediately thought how lucky I was to have such a fuel efficient, low emission vehicle in this class.
I guess the editors there don't drive an RX 300.

Daddy-o, the problem is those 3 little words "in this class". The Sierra Club isn't against our RX's, they are against "this class" -i.e. anything that doesn't get 35MPG
Or in Canada, where politician in charge of this stuff drives a hybrd (55mpg) or peddles his bicycle to work, the standard is likely to be 50MPG ("if i can drive a 55MPG vehicle, so can every Canadian)
