Default Replacement tire choice for RX300

Looking for tires to replace the Goodyears that came on my 1999 RX300 using the stock 16 inch wheels. Let me know your pros and cons for the choice you made. Thanks

I'm also looking to do exactly the same to my just aquired '99. After reading many threads on this forum, I am planning to go with the Michelin Cross Terrain in the plus size (235 in staed of the 225 width - 235 70 16) which, I understand, fit and handle very well. If I was to summarize the discussions I've read, the posters would definitely be for the Michelins across the board with the size your personal preference.

I also looked at the Michelins. First I would have to reverse them because they are white lettered. Also Michelins are a bit pricey. I have had them on two other cars and they didn't wear well and they felt a bit squishy. I never felt really comfortable in the rain with them. They were MXV's. I looked at Consumers web site, and they rated the Goodrich Long Trail T/A highly for a lot less money. I spoke to a local dealer who sells both, and he said he would go with the Goodrich T/A's. He showed me an article that Road and Track did, rating them very good in the light truck ,SUV application. I am going to make up my mind in the next couple of days, but I am leaning towards the Goodrich's.

Thanks for this additional input. I will look into them too. As far as the MXVs, I've used them on my MB for years and do like them alot.

Default MCTs for $70

The Michelin Cross Terrains 235s are for $70 each at OnlineTires.com or $85 @ TireRack.com

An older (2000?) article in Consumer's Report rated BFG Long Trail T/A's as the top SUV tire for for those of us who have to contend with that white stuff every year. I believe Michelin's were the top-rated tire (no idea which version), but the snow traction sucked. I had T/A's on my Sidekick - I loved them.

Our new (2000) RX has Michelin LTX's - I drove 100 miles in a blizzard on Thursday - they were great! no complaints! Some people say the Cross Terrain's are better highway tire, I might have gone with those if I had a choice, but the delaer had installed the LTX's on our RX before we bought it. So far I like the LTX's just fine.

I've had CTXs on wifey's RX for around 25k and 2.5 years. We don't get much snow so that wasn't much of an issue, but we suffered 2 VERY large ice storms 1 week apart 2 years ago and they were fine once the streets got past the point of zero travel!! They are about as quiet as the Goodyears were, the ride is unchanged and every other aspect of performance is way better. Will probably buy 'em again unless something demonstrably better is out when the time comes.

Most tires have white lettering; reversal of the tire is nothing new and has no adverse affect when the tire is not unidirectional. It's been more than 25 years since I worked in a service station and, even then, we mounted more tires with lettering to the inside than out.

But skyman, almost anything is better than the Integritys!! So there's probably no really bad decision for you if you're putting this much research into your next set.

Default Second the Michelin LTX

I just upgraded the rubber on my wife's 2000 RX-300 - Michelin LTX M/S. She said she feels much more comfortable driving with the Michelins than the hydroplaning Integrity's. They are available with or without raised white lettering. Call Luke at Tire Rack 1-888-541-1777 Ext 362. Great service, great prices.

Cheers,

Rich

I recently put two on the front (FWD). Traction (dry and wet) is great. The feedback in the steering column is slightly more due to treads. The sidewalls seem leaner as the RX now plows a bit more.

In couple of thousand miles, I will get the other two.
