Start by checking transmission fluid (level, color, smell).
Put the vehicle in "N" and see if you can push forward and backwards ... make sure some one is at the control and can steer and apply brakes as needed.
From the post, things dont sound good and you may need to have a mechanic have a look.

Transmissions are run by electronics these days. Before you assume there are trans. problems (meaning mechanical) Be CERTAIN that it is not caused by electrical (meaning ANYTHING in the electrical/electronic pathway). There are oftern trans problems that manifest themselves as mechanical to the novice, that are actually E/E. Don't think for a minute that any large number of mechanics (either dealer or trans shop) are going to be honest or competent enough to diagnose a trans problem that is electronic as that, rather than mechanical when they stand to make $200-$300. on an electronic problem and $4000. on a new transmission. Good luck on finding that ONE honest, competent mechanic who will find out what your need ACTUALLY is and fix and charge you for JUST that.
(the shifts are controlled by electrical solenoids in the valve body and just may be the reason for the slippage) DO NOT drive it that way!
