Sorry to resurrect an old post. But given the issues these RX300s have with the tranny I would like to know a bit more about what others on this site have successfully used. I am not opposed to using Genuine Toyota T-IV. I have looked over a bunch of older posts and still have not concluded what is best.

Is there a consensus on which ATF we should be using? Should I be sticking to the Toyota T-IV or Do you recommend Castrol, Max Life, Mobil or others?

Or, doesn't matter as long as you change it frequently?

The way I look at it is Toyota designed the car and the fluids to be used in it, so I stick with their recommendations. I've changed my fluid & filter twice and used T-IV both times.

I realize that Toyota fluid is recommended, but then again, this transaxle is not the most robust with a history of premature failure. As good as Toyota is they have been known to "flub" some things.

As Lexus114 notes, I do notice a little bit of hesitation from 1st to 2nd gear when I ease into an acceleration. My transmission has about 80K on it. The current fluid is red and smells just fine. I would like to avoid premature failure.

Being so new to this vehicle, I was hoping to gain some anecdotal insight from others who have similar results as "Lexus114" using a different fluid like the "Castrol Multi Import" to improve the transaxle performance?
