2001 rx engine miss from dead stop
Hi,
My RX with 131,000 miles has a slight hesitation engine miss from a dead start when mashing the petal. There are no cel codes. Just replaced plugs and timing belt 20,000 miles ago .Full tune up too. Car runs good with great power thru transition up to speed. But at coasting you can mash it quick and feel the engine miss slightly. Quite sure it`s not the tranny. You can hear the miss with the window down. Very slight then pulls hard from there.
Thanks for ideas.

Does your CEL light up when you first insert the key and move it to ON/run position. All warning lights should turn on (self test).
You can still check the OBDII to see if you have pending codes that point to a missfire.
Just to point out there is a term which we call 'lurch' vs missfire. Missfire can be heard through the exhaust, while a lurch which can be accompanied by a mechanical sound ,,, typically due to a broken mount. The dog bone mount (which is near the power steering reservoir) has a life around 150kmiles and it has to be in good condition for instant pedal push.
Among other problems would be the condition of brake fluid. A healthy fluid in lines should freely travel back when you release the pressure on the brakes (last stop). It is one of the least maintained fluid ... please purge and refresh it.

Thanks Salim,
Check engine light not on and works ok at test. Brakes are not dragging. No mech. sounds at takeoff point. Does the same thing at takeoff from reverse or forward from dead stop. Engine hesitating for sure.

Ok. CEL light came on today after miss from dead stop. I took the battery lead off for about an hour to reset the computer. No code now, but still a slight quick miss when you take off. Also, it you are sitting at idle and quickly mash it, it will miss too, then clear quickly as you pass above idle. You can hear the miss at the exhaust pipe when someone is standing behind the vehicle. Car idles well and runs great at cruising speed.
any ideas??

Ok. I cleaned the MAF sensor in the airflow with some electrical cleaner and a que tip. Take off sensor with two screws and unplug. Look down in sensor and you will see 2 small electrodes. Careful, they are fragile. Clean with que tip and elec. spray. Also clean sensor on MAF that is the bigger easy to see one. Removed battery post to reset cpu. Also, I cleaned the PVC valve which was not moving freely with some carb. cleaner & compressed air. Ran a lot better on first test run. Hardly any lag or miss as before. Hope this works and holds up.
