Funny you should ask!
The factory rack says 75 lbs limit. Thule and Yakima recommend that you do NOT place their cargo boxes on the factory rack. I fumed over this for a couple of weeks, having asked the dealer to include the factory cross-bars as part of our purchase deal. Then I removed the bars (the dealer offered to take them back and refunded the full retail price for the bars), and it was obvious why the limit is 75 lbs - the bars are held in place by a metal clip in a track that I wouldn't trust, especially with a loaded cargo box on a windy highway at 70MPH. So, we will soon have a Thule rack (purchased on eBay, came from another RX300), and are trying to decide on which Thule cargo box.
