Angry Stupid Trucks and their lack of mud guards on the wheels

Rock flew up from a truck and left a little crack in the windshield yesterday. Today the crack has evolved in a star, and im pretty sure its starting to spread faster. Its currently about a third of an inch long. Is it too late to repair the damage? Does insurance cover this kind of stuff?
Thanks

Sure thing - not to worry. Most insurance policies have an option that fully covers all glass problems such as this. [I hope you have glass coverage]. Just call an auto glass replacement company (look in the yellow pages or ask your ins broker who he recommends). Call the glass company, bring it in or some will come to you and they handle all the paperwork too! Real easy and as good as new. I've had it happen on my MB so not to feel too bad!

Ok, on a side note. What's up with all this advertising by the auto glass companies? At least up here in New England (Giant Glass for one). There must be a lot of money in this business if they can afford to advertise so much! Price fixing?

I believe it can be stopped at the star stage. They apply a
vacuum and pull some resin-type glue into the star. It won't
make it look any better, but it will stop it from spreading. Look
in the Yellow pages. I've seen mobile winshield repair services.

Cool You have come to the right person

I actually work for Safelite AutoGlass Corporate in Columbus, OH. Anything that can be covered by a dollar bill (about 6 inches long) can be repaired. The trick is to catch it before it spreads more. If you have comprehensive coverage on your insurance, most insuance companies (about 98% of them) will waive the deductible completely because it is cheaper to fix the glass than to replace it (plus it saves you money).

Just give 1-800-800-ASAP a call and they can walk you through your options and even give you a free quote on a new piece of glass. Depending on who your insurance is through, we can process the whole thing on one call. You may have to get a claim number from your company but they will not give you any gripe and then call back with the claim #. Very easy process and we can usually mobile out to you the next day to fix the problem. Good luck.
