Took off the negative battery cable for about 1/2 hour. Dropped in the K & N air filter. (Perfect fit by the way- 33-2052).
Hooked battery back up hopped in and all the settings were still intact except the clock. Every other vehicle I have disconnected the battery in also erased all stored radio programs. Wondering now if I left it off long enough for it to reset.
First drive with it. 41 miles south on the garden state pkwy and then 42 back between exits 117 and the rest stop at mile marker 76. MPG was 21. just about the same. Road was flat with a few small hills and 2 slow downs each way to about 20 mph for ez pass lanes. Set cruise control just south of 70mph. We will call it 69, just because its a good number
. Cruise control on about 75% of the time. I was hoping for 23+ mpg. I did notice some better acceleration with much less lag.
Maybe ECU wasnt reset right for the mileage to be the same as usual.

You memtioned that you got part number 33-2052. I thought that the proper part number was 33-2145-1. Looking for clarification before I buy the filter.

NJ,
Sounds like the ECU should have reset. Wondering if you had an actual comparison of the same drive and conditions prior to changing the filter to compare against? And did you reset the avg MPH from standstill after starting the engine or at speed once on the GSP to get your avg, mpg?
Side note: I'm convinced I see lower gas mileage when the tempo is below 20 deg or so, like it has been for a week or more (-4 deg here this morning!)

I reset the trip comp, once I got up to hwy speed. Mileage prior was 21.6.
The 33-2052 was the old recommended part#. 2145-1 I think is the new number but there were a lot of questions raised about the fit of the 2145. The 2052 fit perfect in my 2002 AWD. Popped the clips on the box and slid it right in.
Will have a better idea of mileage later this afternoon. I am sure the ECU has been reset this time.

Just popped in my K&N.
I have the same question as the HowieNJ had originally.
Is a clock reset *only* a sign that the ECU will have been reset? Or, do you need to see the radio reset *also* to know for sure?
I kept the cables off for a half hour, then touched pos to neg. Only the clock was reset...

cep, a half hour is all you need. Now just drive some so it can relearn what it needs to know and then take it oon a trip. Report back how you did.
BTW, what we are offered by this filter is in a similar class as high octaine fuel - in other words, we wont see much in normal driving...
On the other hand, at WOT is where low restrictive air filters, high octane, high flow intakes, cold air boxes and low back pressure mufflers show there stuff.
Now off to the track!
