+1. I really like this approach, especially draining hot oil but waiting until cold to change filter. Minimal mess and no forearm burns!

jmcraney - I'm going to do the felt pads. I had them on a battery on one of my past vehicles (when I was younger) but didn't know the purpose. From day 1 of owning this new NAPA battery, I concluded it was not up to the same quality standards as the Panasonic. But I didn't think it would be like this. And my car is treated nice. Kept clean, stays in a nice cool garage. And still, to build acidic corrosion like this is more than a bit annoying. I can't imagine how bad it would be under other circumstances that might promote battery corrosion. I'm not an advocate for AGM batteries, but this is one variable where AGM wins, and could change my mindset.
